Technical visit to Kalyani Dam, near Chandragiri, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh

  • The department of civil engineering always thrives to enhance the theoretical and practical knowledge of students and faculty by conducting many academic events and practical visits like students internships, Technical Visit, filed visits, industrial visits etc.
  • In this connection the Department of Civil Engineering of Annamacharya Institute of Technology and sciences, Rajampet has organized a Technical visit to Kalyani Dam, near Chandragiri, in Tirupati, on 09th December 2022 for the benefit of III B.Tech. I. Semester Civil Engineering students.
  • Many students have shown interest and enthusiasm to attend the Technical visit to Kalyani Dam on 9th December 2022 and it is scheduled between 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on the same day. All the students are instructed to assemble near the college main gate before 7AM
  • The main objective of the Technical visit is to impart the practical knowledge of nearby existing water storage/water retaining structures i.e., dam/reservoir.
  • A total of 43 students from III B.Tech. I Semester Civil Engineering has participated in the Technical visit to Kalyani Dam maintained by Irrigation Department, Govt. of A.P. accompanied with 03 faculty members namely Dr. T. Naresh Kumar, Associate Professor and HOD of Civil Engineering, Dr. D. Sreenivasulu, Associate Professor and Mrs. Rashmi. K, Assistant Professor Technical visit. Students are the volunteers and part of organizers of this Technical visit.

FeedBacks

College Level

  • The college encourages graduates from various years to contact with alumni and use their services, such as ideas, Guest Lectures, Internship possibilities, placements and etc.
  • The CRT class provides regular training and placement in non-domains of civil engineering and aptitude to students in order to make them as employable as feasible.
  • During the summer, the institution has encouraged students to participate in internships in order to gain the necessary field complex problem-solving abilities.
  • Faculty parents meet once a year will be organized to discuss their wards (students) and to receive regular input on their wards' progress and the college's general development.
  • A number of suggestion boxes are stationed outside the Principal's, Deans', and Heads' offices in order to collect constant feedback for improvement.

Department Level

  • The department promotes innovation, creativity, and outcome-based teaching and learning, as well as professional and technical quality improvement.
  • Special classes are held for prospective engineering students to disseminate knowledge in the domain of civil engineering from the perspective of competitive exams (GATE).
  • The Department has encouraged students to participate in internships over their holidays in order to gain valuable field experience and develop complicated problem-solving skills.
  • A unique counselling method is implemented and followed, in which each faculty is assigned 20 to 25 students as Proctors, with the goal of continuously monitoring student development and recommending modifications in the event of any academic deviation.
  • To promote research in their area of competence within the discipline of civil engineering.
  • Students benefit from the Student Improvement Programs such as remedial classes.
  • The Institute Incubation Centre encourages 2 to 3 students from each year to master entrepreneurial skills (IIC centre).
  • Suggestion and complaint boxes are located outside the HoD Chamber to allow for continual feedback for the department's advancement and improvement.
  • Effective use of learning tools, multimedia, and internet resources for teaching is available in department faculty rooms as well as the central library.
  • Organizing different cultural activities on a timely basis.

1. Title of the practice:

Outcome-based teaching-learning is used to convey domain knowledge to aspiring civil engineering students in order to motivate them. To undertake internships that will help them develop complicated problem-solving skills. To stimulate research activity in their field of interest, a unique counselling process-mentor Mentee system has been developed. Conducting remedial classes for slow and weak learners, as well as utilising the Institute Incubation Centre's entrepreneurial expertise (IIC Centre). Suggestion and complaint boxes are set up, as well as effective use of learning materials and e-content.

2. Objectives of the practice

The faculty's knowledge is increased by holding different programmes on a regular basis. FDPs/seminars/workshops, interactive sessions, and motivational talks are all part of the programme. Eminent and resource personnel are invited from reputable institutions, recognised universities, and a variety of organisations, both public and private. These programmes assist in the development of civil engineering professionals and the development of effective teachers.

3. The context

Every semester, remedial classes for slow and weak learners/students are held on a regular basis. Students are nurtured by the teacher through his lessons, knowledge is disseminated, students participate in learning activities and skill development programmes, and students are exposed to many industries through institution industry engagement and are prepared for industry readiness.

4. The practice

Faculty members who are willing to participate in FDPs/Workshops/Seminars pertaining to their particular speciality and research are encouraged to do so by the department. The institute also assists all faculty members who are interested and willing to engage in such programmes with financial support. Faculty members who publish their research in reputable publications, on the other hand, receive the prize and reward. Students receive one or two hours of counselling and mentoring every week for the purpose of clarifying and dispelling their doubts, monitoring their attendance, inspiring them, and eventually nurturing the students by preparing them to be responsible citizens.

5. Evidence of success

Overall, the pass percentage was increased, the absence rate has decreased, and a large number of students have received good grades in the final exams. Industrial visits, technical tours, demonstrations of live construction projects, case studies of student project work, virtual classroom sessions, MOOCs courses, and the use of ICT tools in the classroom for demonstration purposes all aid students in a more realistic comprehension of subjects. The institute's CRT training class has enhanced the percentage of placements.

6. Problems encountered and resources required

Due to their busy schedules, bringing famous people from recognised and renowned universities can be difficult. Few kids have personal problems and issues that can be resolved with the help of their class teacher, mentor, and faculty coordinators. Upgrading existing labs on a regular basis to meet industry needs and requests. The concerned specialist faculty member must make earnest efforts to update the syllabus in accordance with the newest technology employed by the industry and their requirements while developing the syllabus and regulations. Additional efforts are needed to expose students to the most up-to-date technology in order to meet industry demands.

7. Notes (optional)

  • The institution, i.e., administration, academic administrators, and faculty, believe the exercise is worthwhile since it addresses many facets of the teaching-learning process as well as the college's vision for excellence and progress.
  • Our institute is one of the few that has successfully adopted the concept of quantification of teacher roles after extensive testing. Faculty members are currently at ease with the procedure.
  • NAAC specialists who came to see the procedure praised it. Few Many Engineering Colleges in Rayalaseema has adopted a model that is substantially identical. Many other universities have taken notice of our methodology and showed an interest in developing similar teacher evaluation models.
  • Our college's FPA process should be emulated by other engineering colleges and colleges of higher education, with appropriate adaptations to fit the specific circumstances. The implementation of the same will almost certainly result in greater and more effective participation of faculty in the institute's teaching-learning process.
