Anti Ragging

Preamble:

It emphasizes that Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Rajampet, strictly prohibits ragging on its campus, in accordance with the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court dated May 8, 2009, and UGC regulations under the Act of 1956. These regulations are designed to prohibit, prevent, and eliminate the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions.

The institute asserts that anyone found engaging in any form of ragging will face strict action, regardless of the extent of their involvement. To prevent such activities, an anti-ragging committee has been formed, and it has been operational even before the start of the first-year classes under the direction of the principal. This committee's purpose is to ensure that a safe and welcoming environment is maintained on the campus and that students are protected from any form of ragging.

Objective:

To eliminate ragging in all its forms from the institution by prohibiting it under these regulations preventing its occurrence and punishing those who indulge in ragging as provided for in these regulations and the appropriate law in force.

Anti-Ragging Policy at AITS:

AITS has a zero-tolerance policy for ragging. The Institute views ragging, is an uncivilized, and inhuman practice. We do not subscribe to the view that one could wait till something happens in order to initiate stringent action. Any rigorous action in such cases may damage a young career. So, we repose faith in averting such eventualities. For this, the Institute has a proactive policy.

Preventive measures had been devised during the last couple of years to eliminate all possibilities of the occurrence of such a ghastly incident even in its mildest form. The measures have been implemented effectively to rule out any incident of ragging being attempted by senior students at any place inside the campus. For ragging non-grata at AITS, all stakeholders viz. management, faculty, students, and employees are involved in creating an environment.

  1. "Ragging in all its forms is totally banned in this institution including in its departments, constituent units, all its premises (academic, residential, sports, canteen/cafeteria and the like) whether located within the campus or outside, and in all means of transportation of students whether public or private."
  2. Students and parents need not harbor undue apprehensions in this regard. They should report any incident immediately to the college authorities and stringent punishment will be meted out to the culprit(s).
  3. "IF any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his / her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would subject him/her to suitable punishment."

To be vigilant on all the activities of the students in regard to ragging, we have formed an anti- ragging committee. The first-year students and parents can freely contact and seek help from anybody at any time with respect to ragging. Hoardings displayed at different places on the campus speak themselves about the Institution's concern about curbing the menace of ragging.
As per the direction of the honorable Supreme Court of India and UGC, the institute will strictly follow the "AICTE Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Educational Institutions ".

Preventive Measures of Ragging at AITS:

The various preventive measures were considered in AITS for the prevention the ragging.

  1. Anti-ragging brochures issued by the University Grants Commission are displayed at all the departmental Notice Boards, the Central Library, the Main Building Notice Boards, and at the Hostels to ensure that no ragging takes place within the campus.
  2. Anti-Ragging duties are assigned to the faculty members of the Institute. All such faculty members roam every half an hour in and around the campus buildings. This duty is discharged by all the faculty members for the prevention of ragging in the institute premises.
  3. The principal, hostel wardens, and faculty staff make periodical and surprise checks in the hostels and on other premises of the institution particularly during the evening and at night.
  4. Students coming from weaker sections and others, who are particularly sensitive are assisted and counseled so that they do not resort to taking any extreme steps.
  5. Surprise checks should also be done at places outside the college campus, particularly at places where students take up residences outside the hostels (especially at New Boyanapalli, Rajampet)
  6. Instances are also reported of ragging occurring at bus stops, canteens, and restaurants and also at localities where students reside. It is curbed by sending teams of staff and students. The assistance of local police is taken in their regard.
  7. AITS draws up a code of conduct for the senior students as well as freshers regarding the appropriate behavior and conduct.
